This I think is my least favorite one. The more I think about it, the less interested I am in a tattoo fetish. I am however interested in the idea of sugar daddies. No surprise to me that I found this one in the men looking for women in LA. When I lived there, I met many people who’s occupation was to emotionally support (and sometimes have sex with) wealthy people for money. I personally think this is a worthy occupation, although I don’t know if it’s worth the money. However the whole idea does blur the line between economics and culture and it makes me think about the foundations that relationships are built one. Don’t a lot of relationships have emotional and economic elements? Isn’t there usually a connection between the two?

This is my favorite personal’s recording to date and the only one that I specifically remember recording in 2006. I think that is a perfectly good question to ask, why are some people, who have all the elements of being really attractive people, just can’t seem to find a partner. There are a lot of people who are good looking, smart, kind, confident, who are just not attractive people. What is that missing element? What is the thing that defines that? I’m asking too Sally.

Some of these more low key recording, that all came from the my session in 2006, remind me of a certain type of film. It’s a genre, although I’m not sure it has a name. I am speaking of movies by Cassavetes, Fellini, Morrissey, Burnett. These films revel in the human condition just for the sake of it. There is a lot of power in this type of storytelling. Part of this project is an attempt to harness some of that power and to figure out how catharsis works within this type of craft.

Listening to the ones recorded then and thinking about how they contrast with the ones I am recording now is an interesting topic in and of itself. These older ones are more mundane, and the reading is more subtle, more straight up. I wonder if what I was looking for in them then was different then what I’m trying to find in them now.
